Akureyrahelgi/Akureyri Weekend

17/2/15

Blah blah blah intro--let's just get right to the pictures:

Can't really beat the view for a bus stop.

The ride begins:

Once reaching our destination, we basically spent the rest of the day/night hanging out, so fast forward twenty-four hours and we're visiting a farm:

I know Bambi was a deer, but...

There was one horse with a blue eye, which I found very cool.

These two goats look like a comedy duo.

You have no idea how pleased I am with this picture.

KITTY!!!! She was so sweet!
Right after the farm we went to jólahúsið (the Christmas house), where it's Christmas every day of the year.

Reminds me of Narnia.

Later on we were given some free time to explore the town, so the AFS-ers who are actually living in Akureyri became our tour guides and showed us the sights:

Unfortunately it was only a weekend trip, so after much hugging and many reluctant goodbyes, we began the long drive back.

Akureyri, you have definitely not seen the last of me!

Raufarhöfn Adventure(!) pt. 1: Point A to Point B

12/2/15
Sæl/l allir!
So, last weekend I went on a roadtrip with Anna (my AFS counselor) from Reykjavík all the way to Raufarhöfn, which looked something like this:

When driving across Iceland, you have to kind of drive around the edge in order to avoid running into glaciers.

Horsies!!!
The mountains were already gorgeous, but one cool little bonus is that there are houses scattered over them, which allows you to see just how big the mountains are by comparison.

It was around this time that the storm rolled in.

We had only just made it through the worst of the weather by a couple of hours before finding out that the road we had been on was now closed, so we were rather lucky. Especially since that meant I got to take pictures like these:

I don't think photos really do it justice, but once the snowfall stopped the mountains looked more at peace somehow.
That's it for this entry, and the next one won't be coming until at least after the Akureyri trip this weekend, but here's a preview of things to come:
